Mark the date, on June 1, 2012, we launch for the Furbidden Planet! This is a pretty big announcement for Further Confusion 2013: The Furbidden Planet! On June 1st, 2012, we will be launching Hotel Registrations, Membership Pre-Registration, Dealer’s Room Applications, and our Themed Website. Please take a moment to read through this announcement for the most important points and be sure to take a look at our updated and themed site when it launches on June 1st, 2012 for more specific and detailed information regarding each of these important announcements.UPDATE: We will make a follow-up announcement with the exact time that all of this will go live at the begining of next week.1. The updated and completely themed web site for Further Confusion 2013: The Furbidden Planet! will Launch on June 1, 2012
Our themed site will have much more information regarding all of these announcements when it launches on June 1, 2012. We will, of course, make sure that we announce it the second it goes live via our Twitter, FaceBook, Google Plus, and FA accounts.
2. Membership Pre-Registration Will Open on June 1, 2012 The doors will fully open for pre-registration for Further Confusion 2013 on June 1, 2012. We know that it has been a bit of a delay but we’ve been doing a lot of work on the back-end to make things move more smoothly for our attendees and our staff.
Pre-Registration fees for memberships at FC2013 will be:
Attending: $45 until 6/30/2012, $50 until 12/31/2012 Sponsor: $100 and above Patron: $200 and above Supporting/Non-Attending: $25
3. Hotel Registration will open on June 1, 2012 After a bit more of a delay than we would have liked we are pleased to announce that we will be open registration for Further Confusion’s hotels on June 1, 2012. Our hotels for this year will be the San Jose Marriott and the San Jose Hilton. Room rates will be as follows:
San Jose Marriott: King/Double-Double - $128 per night Junior Suite - $299 per night Executive Suite - $349 per night
San Jose Hilton Pricing: Standard King/Standard Double - $128 per night Executive King/Executive Double - $128 per night Hospitality Suite - $349 per night Executive Suite - $349 per night
Note - As with Further Confusion 2012, guests will be billed at the con rate for one night (plus tax) for each room reserved immediately upon completion of your reservation. This will be considered a non-refundable deposit and will not be returned in the event of cancellation.
An Important Note Regarding The Hilton - The rumors are true, we are returning to the Hilton as one of our hotels for Further Confusion 2013. We have spent a lot of time talking with the Hilton about your experiences with their service during Further Confusion 2012; we literally walked through every issue that was brought to our attention by our members during our discussions with them. At times the conversation was difficult but we feel very positive about the outcome.
Some of the key outcomes from these discussions that will benefit our fans are...- The General Manager the San Jose Hilton has issued an open letter to all members of Further Confusion who stayed with them in 2012 or may be staying with them for 2013. This letter has been/will be sent to all hotel guests who registered email addresses with the Hilton at check-in. For those who did not, you may find a copy of the letter at the following link - http://goo.gl/JFTlx
- A member of FC staff and/or FLARE will be on-site at the Hilton at all times to quickly address any issues in the unlikely event that they occur.
- Upon check-in, there will be no special requirements for FC attendees, such as extra policy forms to sign. FC attendees will be treated as any other hotel guest, as it should be.
- The staff of the San Jose Hilton will receive additional sensitivity training and information about us and our event to better help them understand and relate to our community.
- Executive Level rooms rooms will be available at the regular con rate however Executive Level amenities, such as the Executive Lounge, will be closed to all guests staying at the Hilton regardless of whether or not they are staying under the convention’s room block.
We are confident that attendees staying at the San Jose Hilton for FC2013 will be treated with the utmost respect and have an enjoyable experience.
An Important Note Regarding Fursuit Floors For Further Confusion 2013 - We’ve thought this over long and hard but came to the conclusion that offering fursuit floors is not very workable any more. With the volume of con goers donning costumes at our event, demand for rooms on fursuit floors has vastly outstripped supply. After blowing through our inventory set aside on the lower floors we tried as best as possible to arrange excess requests onto as low a floor as possible but still ended putting fursuiters up on the highest floors. There really are that that many of you at Further Confusion! Simply put, it is no longer practical for us to offer fursuit floors at Further Confusion.
4. Dealer’s Room Applications Will Open on June 1, 2012 We will begin accepting applications for dealer’s room on June 1, 2012, via on-line application process which will be published on that date. Backup contingencies have been put in place so regardless of what happens, we’ll be able to begin accepting dealer applications on June 1, 2012.
Dealer’s Room rates for FC2013:
Half-Table: $100 Full-Table: $150 Double-Table: $350
These prices above include one (1) full membership to the convention.
Please note, there are a very limited number of double tables, they will be available by special request only. To request consideration for the purchase of a double table you will need to enter your interest in a second table using the words "I would like a second table" in the Special Requests field on the application form when it becomes available on June 1, 2012
Furry Marketplace - Space in the the Furry Marketplace will be available for $80.5. Art show applications will open on July 1st as mentioned in our previous news letter Art Show applications will become open on the 1st of July. Watch for the opening announcement on the FurCon website.SmackJackal Chairman Further Confusion 2013: The Furbidden Planet! | | Saturday, May 12th, 2012 | 5:50 pm [smack_jackal]

Ship’s Log, Galactic Year Taurus 523
As The crew of Further Confusion makes its journey through space to The Furbidden Planet we would like you invite you to join us on this great journey of of ours. In several installments we would like to keep you updated on the ships log of The Fortunes Crown and its crew. ~Story by uklafur Seventeen AUs From Earth, the Colony Ship Fortune’s Crown, Registry #FC-13/X0-94Ship’s Log, Galactic Year Taurus 523Captain Rex S. Danger commanding...An inconceivable disaster has struck. VAMMACC, the Vegetable Animal & Mineral Monitoring and Care Computer, has brought command and navigational personnel out of stasis early to cope with the unexpected. Our best minds are already on task. Nine hundred days ago, everything was fine. Nav calculations were quadruple checked for errors and launch went off without a hitch. But we’re in the wrong place...When we should be making good speed to Outer Regula Station for our first refueling stop, we’re somehow no fewer than 100 light years off course. Even if we knew what heading we needed, ship’s energy stores are now too low to get us there. And we can’t go home. ***“Navigator Thompson, have you gotten a fix on our location yet?” Captain Rex said in as relaxed a tone as he could manage.Thompson, a young man freshly graduated from the Space Navy’s Astronavigation Academy shook his head, “I don’t see any recognizable constellations, Captain. We’re nowhere near Outer Regula Station. The astronavi is working through comparison charts now but it could take days for it to search the entire star model for our exact location.”Rex rubbed his hand over his chin, contemplating that. Without knowing their location he couldn’t possibly begin to direct the ship and its three thousand colonists. He didn’t even know which way to point the subspace communication antenna to call for help. A few days floating idly in space wouldn’t matter much to the remaining supply of fuel for the FC-13’s reactors but it would matter quite a lot the ship’s passengers. It was one of those difficult situations that his Academy instructors had tried to tell him would happen at some point in his career but which he had hoped never would.Rex mustered up a look of resolve. “Well, Thompson, under the circumstances, I have to order you to the map room. And don’t come back until you’ve got a miracle to report.” The navigation officer opened his mouth reflexively, as if to protest. Then his eyes and the captain’s met and the enormity of the situation sank in. “Aye, sir,” said Thompson. Up he got and off he went. “Now,” Captain Danger turned his head to address the rest of the command crew. “How about some theories, people?” Everyone present, about a half dozen of the astro-navy’s finest officers, exchanged blank, uncertain glances. “What happened to us?” asked the Captain, with fervor. “It was supposed to be a few quick pit stops and wake-up calls, then voila! We’re happy homemakers in Canis Majoris! How did it come to this?” Another moment of nervous silence was almost palpable as eyes wandered and throats swallowed. It was the wily, curly-haired Professor Tedge who spoke at last, as he adjusted his spectacles. “Quantum phenomena,” he articulated. “We know so little about the hyperspace currents in this sector. We may have stumbled through a wormhole, or become ensnared by a cosmic filament. There can scarcely be any other explanation.” “I’ll give you an explanation,” wheezed Tactical Chief Danton Boucher as he jabbed a bony finger at the Professor. “Sabotage! Someone working Ground Control wanted us all dead! It was probably an assassin for the Deathly Legions of Mirthlessness! Can’t be too careful with them, you know! They’re Mongolian!” “You’re assuming it was someone from Earth, Chief,” pointed out Population Governor Shondra Maelstrom-Warning, with uncharacteristic desperation in her tone. “Oh, Rex, what if it was that horrible Queen Chamelia? She’s sworn not to rest until all worlds have fallen to her Empire!” “Best not to worry about her, my love,” reassured Chief Technologist Gary Goldenfram. “This isn’t her part of space. It’s much more likely we’re up against the robot armies of Olympus IV! They’ll gas us all and part off the ship!” Knowing a counterproductive argument was about to ensue, Rex gestured at everyone with his palms. “Alright, that’s enough!” he barked. “The fact is we can’t be sure what happened. But you’ve all just come up with several reasons for us each to be doing our jobs.” He turned to Boucher. “Chief, get to the Situation Room. We may have a fight on our hands so make sure all the guns are loaded, all the battlements equipped.” “Haven’t got the staff!” sneered Boucher. “Command was so certain we wouldn’t run into trouble, I’ve only got the two Colonels. They can’t do all the grunt work if we’re to properly fortify.” “Then draft some manpower,” countered Rex. “Once you’ve assessed the workload, you’ll have first pick of who to wake up.” Boucher bit his lip as if trying to find fault with the order. When he couldn’t, he favored his Captain with curt eye contact, a jerky nod, and exited. Rex put one hand on his head as he thought over what to do with the two ranking intellectuals. Then he gestured at them both at once. “Shondra, Tedge, you two are together on morale detail. We may have to wake everyone up. Do a Mass Psycho-Metrics review and see if they’re likely to panic, then find me a way to keep that from happening.” “Oh, Rex..” Shondra began, her eyes big as New Hessian coins. Rex put a hand on her shoulder. “No panicking. That starts with you, Shon. Don’t forget, you’re the leader of the new world. If the population comes back around, you’ll have to show them how to act.” Shondra nodded with a look of mustered courage. She and the Professor went for the Control Room’s aft exit, the door swishing shut behind them. Rex then looked at Goldenfram. “CT, we’re counting on you, most of all. Start your diagnostics on VAMMAC, the Navicom, Security records, Anti-virus, the works. Make sure every computer on this ship is doing what it’s supposed to. Wake up your engineers at your discretion.” “Right, Sir.” and Goldenfram strode off through the port exit. At last, Rex collapsed into the command chair with a great sigh. He wasn’t sure if the assignments he’d just given everyone were as crucial as they hopefully seemed or just busywork. As for himself, he did the one thing he could think of that may have been worthwhile: pray. ***Hours later, an intra-ship communication session began between Thompson and the Captain. DANGER: Alright, shipman, let’s have it. THOMPSON: Not much luck yet, Sir. Still no bearing on Earth, ORS, or Canis Majoris. DANGER: Sounds like a lot of luck, actually, just not the good kind. If that’s all you can give me, Mister, we might as well wake the clergy and tell them it’s our funeral. THOMPSON: Actually, there is one hope, Sir, but you may not like it. DANGER: Let’s hear it. THOMPSON: Aureus. Don’t ask me how but it’s glinting through on the Deep Space Senso-scope like a big, golden bead! DANGER: Aureus, what’s that? THOMPSON: It’s one of the most mineral-rich planets known, Captain, and it’s got an atmosphere. DANGER: Then we may have hope after all! What makes you say I wouldn’t like it? THOMPSON: You’ve never heard? The Wooly Men of New Hera want it. They even offered to trade three of their moons for it about a century back. It’s a fair bet some of them are squatting. But that’s not even the main problem. DANGER: What is the main problem, Thompson? THOMPSON: You’d have to ask the Regional Core Government, Sir. Aureus is Prohibited under Federal Code 15. No one’s allowed within fifty parsecs. DANGER: I see. Well, I’m looking in every direction and I see no alternative. This little, gold world of yours may be the worst choice but it’s also the only choice. Buck up and set course for this...heh, Fur-Bidden Planet. | 12:36 pm [smack_jackal]

A message from Space Station 4...
I think it’s safe to say that Further Confusion is a thing that many people feel very strongly about, something that--for more reasons than I have allotted column space--they deeply love. There are few who love this convention more than the people who volunteer their precious personal time to build for you the best experience that we can possibly build. It isn’t easy work but it is rewarding; it is a labor of love. I can’t begin to express the depth of my gratitude for hard work and dedication of Further Confusion’s staff throughout the year from the start of planning to loadout of the final piece of equipment when the convention is over--I am in awe of it. It is also safe to say that Further Confusion has had some challenges in recent years, most significantly the move to our new home at the San Jose Convention Center. Some of these challenges we anticipated, some we did not. Some of the choices we made while tackling these challenges were home runs and others not so much. For both cheers and jeers--especially the jeers--we have heard you and we have taken it all very much to heart. We have taken it as our call to action and we have a plan to address the issues. Like my gratitude for the guys and gals who help nail Further Confusion together every year I also cannot adequately express the depth of my gratitude to our attendees and guests who set aside time in their lives to come to San Jose to be with friends, to play and to enjoy the fantastically diverse community that we call Furry. We are building this convention for you. You deserve our respect, our admiration and our very best effort; you should expect no less than that from us. This weekend, today--right now, in point of fact--we begin the heavy-lifting work of putting together the next Further Confusion ( and laying the groundwork for one after that... ), of building the better rocket ship to take all of you, our members, our guests and our staff, on the fantastic journey filled with unique experiences that a convention should be. We do this because we love Further Confusion. We do this because we love Furry. Most of all, we do this because we love all of you mad, crazy, insanely beautiful individuals who make up our fandom. On behalf of the entire crew of Further Confusion 2013, I invite you to follow our progress as we build the vessel that will take us all to The Furbidden Planet! I lieu of Hiss & Purr
Unfortunately I had to miss Hiss & Purr that Monday as my landlord was coming home from the hospital. Probably a good thing as it's possible I would have hugged everyone to death! I'm amazed at what I got for my $50. Those photos from DragonScales Gallery are amazing! He's fantastic master at poses he comes up with! I got so many things for it. For those who haven't read my FA journals and such (the staff members are busy!), I was blown away at the fursuit parade! I was sure that it would be like those parade photos I've seen where just a doze photographers were in the area and not much else. When I went through the doors from the hallway to the main concourse I exploded in tears! I could not believe the number of cameras, photographers (ones with good SLRs are a good indicator), and audience. Every turn (dang, I'm crying again typing this) there was more packed in everywhere! I could not believe it at all! I got so very much for that money, I thought before hand that a lot of things like the professional photo shoot would have charges associated as that's normal for conventions and such. But so many free things?! The fursuit badge! And so on! I was looking for the convention "store" at one point (late?) and didn't find it as I didn't see anything about it until probably Sunday. Doesn't matter much. T-shirts would be limited to size 3X (hint, hint). I'm still probably 5X, possibly 4X as I'm loosing weight. It was a gift from two friends of mine that made attending all the days I did possible. The whole experience is just overwhelming and when I feel down, I try to remember. I knew the staff was all volunteer (I use the term staff to include gophers and such BTW) so I knew it could not be very professional. Actually professional conventions suck in my opinion more in they are too "sterile" and can be unfriendly too. The staff was amazingly wonderful. I understood the things that did go "wrong" as I knew it was all volunteer so no one needed to remind me of that. I kept that it was volunteer most of the time in mind. I wish I could think of more compliments to pay that are more direct about the convention. Indirectly the convention produced the most wonderful things in my life from seeing an infinite number of different designs and concepts in fursuits to the wonderful fun things that could have been done had I known how (at age 52 I have to learn how to have fun all over again!). I can see why folks even on very limited income travel all over to the conventions. I want so badly to do more! Current Mood: thankful | 2:22 pm [kreggan]

A question of rules, regs & procedures....
I did not go this year but had a good friend who did. My friend does have some handicapped issues and does have a CA handicapped plate. From what I gather the con's attitude was total indifference, a "tough luck" kind of attitude. I am shocked if that was the case. One, that I thought furries better than that and secondly, I know there are "laws" ("American's With disabilities Act" and so on. Could you please respond here as to what the con's policies and attitudes are as to the disabled? Thank you, "Me"/Henry Current Mood: distressed | | Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 | 10:54 pm [ultragor]

Looking for more headshots!
Once again, I'm making a call-out to anyone who would like to see their fursuit headshot become part of my "Neon Projects". I found only a few shots at FC this year that were doable. If you'd like to have your head "neonized", please send me yuor links! All my projects are posted on my gallery under "The Neon Projects" album. I never know how each one will turn out; that makes it all the more FUN! ( www.ultra-gor.com/gallery/) Here's an example: Current Mood: creative | 6:52 pm [excelsiorlion]

con badge holder pocket
I didn't hear the name of that pocket thing that hangs around the neck for holding con badges and so forth. I think it's a full pocket as well so keys and what not can be put in it. I looked at several places and on Ebay / Staples and could not find that sort of thing. Just the basic clear plastic ones. What is it called and where can I find them?!
