    June FC staff meeting this Saturday the 8th!
    Further Confusion will be holding our next public staff meeting for the FC2014 season on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 at 1PM in the Guadalupe Room of the San Jose Marriott, 301 South Market St, San Jose. (This room is on the second floor of the Marriott, it was our second headless lounge during FC 2013!)

    If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area and have any interest at all in helping with Further Confusion as a member of staff, we highly encourage you visit our open staff meetings to find out how you can be involved. If you can't come to the meeting in person but you still want to help, please email HR@furtherconfusion.org and we will be happy to help you find a job with us.
    There are a lot of ways to help the convention, many of which only require a few hours of your time before or during the convention. In return for volunteering your time with us you get a deeply discounted rate on your convention membership, access to other staff perks, and the appreciation of a very thankful executive committee as well as the thanks of your fellow attendees.

    FC:UNLEASHED 2014 CALL FOR ACTS!
    Heeeeeeeeey kids!

    It's that time again!

    We are asking you to start submitting your acts for Further Confusion's variety show: FC:Unleashed!

    I'm Sprout, your MC for the 2014 show and I'm working closely with the show's new lead, KaiFox! The show is shaping up to be a good one and we already have a few fun things that we're planning on adding to the lineup.

    However, we need YOU and YOUR acts to make the show happen! I know I sound like a broken record but truely, without acts, we have no show.

    A message from the MeetingMax President and COO
    I personally wanted to make sure I addressed an item of concern that was brought to my attention this evening.

    I understand that at 6:00PM (Pacific) today, FurCon 2014 went live to take hotel reservations. This housing initiative was launched using the Meetingmax Online Housing platform. Sequentially and unfortunately, there was scheduled maintenance set to perform on the servers at the same time. Upon receipt of the knowledge of FurCon’s timing, our technical team decided that although it was unlikely to create an issue, they would postpone the maintenance until 3:00AM tomorrow morning.

    Unfortunately although they disabled one of the scheduled maintenance routines, there were still several more that were left to run. These routines running in combination with the FurCon group booking their hotel rooms created a slow reservation process for many. If either of these occurrences happened individually, there would be no issue however, as you state in your address, it truly created the “perfect storm”. I understand that reservations started flowing at 6:30 and several per second in under an hour of launch but I do realize there was a period of time that your members needed to sit and wait to get their hotel reservation created.

    I want to take this opportunity to apologize for the inconvenience experienced by some of your members. Although the Meetingmax Housing System is used for thousands of large citywide events each year throughout the world, some totalling more than 50,000 attendees each & is used in high profile events like TED Conferences, Ironman Triathalons and the Winter Olympics, this issue was unforeseen by our technical staff. For this I would like to personally apologize.

    At Meetingmax we are known for creating a culture of service and living by our 6 Core Values. I think we fell down on one of these tonight; “Create Success” but I am hoping that our second core value “Nurture All Relationships” is evident in our dealings this evening. Please feel free to have any of your attendees drop me a line directly if they would like to. I am happy to get any feedback (and despite having a terrific services team in-house, I always answer my own emails and my own phone).

    The Perfect Storm or...what the heck happened tonight!

    Attendees,

    First off I want to give our most sincere appolgies for the issue with our hotel reservation system. Here is the situation:

    Team San Jose changed softwares from Passkey to MeetingMax for reservations. Both systems are very similiar and easy to use, but MeetingMax is known for great service for their customers. This is evident in the fact that I have personally been on the phone with their COO during the incident tonight.

    We had a "perfect storm" happen: a scheduled maintence on the MeetingMax system that the COO had instructed to be turned off, so we wouldn't have server issues. Apparently, the IT department missed the memo. The system then went into its maintence as scheduled at the same time our attendee's were trying to get their reservations. The COO and myself worked to get the maintence turned off so our attendees could get their reservations. Reservations first appeared in the system around 6:30pm Pacific Time and have gone from there. I will personally be speaking with Team San Jose about this issue.

    If you are not sure if your reservation went thru, please email hotel@furtherconfusion.org and either myself or my assistant director will reply with information confirming it.  We will just need the name that is on the reservation.

    Some nights have already sold out. We are aware of this and will talk to Team San Jose in the morning to extend our block. However as the hotels themselves fill up with other reservations, it severly limits our ability to extend the blocks. If you are able to get a reservation and are missing Sunday night or Monday night, please make the reseravtion for what you can obtain and email hotel@furtherconfusion.org and we will work to get you into a room for Sunday and Monday night.


    Again I will be working with Team San Jose, the Marriott and the Hilton on what happened tonight.

    Edit: seems messages went out via Twitter that the team knows there is a problem is trying to fix this issue (I have no Twitter so I ran straight here)

    Been almost 20 minutes now and "click here to book your room" is not working for me, and an email just now confirmed that it is not working for my friend either.

    on IE I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page"
    on firefox I get "The connection has times out The server at www.mmx2reservations.com is taking too long to respond."

    just thought I would letcha know in case something needs fixing .__.

    Schedule of Further Confusion Staff 2014 Open Meetings
    Hey guys, here's the schedule of Further Confusion 2014 remaining Open Staff Meetings!  These meeting are open to everybody who wishes to sit in and see how we put Further Confusion together or to volunteer to help with many of the feature of convention, both before and during the run of the convention. (Yep, not all volunteering opportunities require that you give up any time at all during the convention!) So come, learn, help, enjoy, and hang out with other furs as we put the pieces of Further Confusion 2014: Further Confusion Vs. The World! into place!

    An Update Regarding our Hotels!
    We want to let folks know the situation with our 2014 hotel block: San Jose's convention bureau Team San Jose (which handles our convention contracts) has recently changed its hotel reservation software, which caused a delay in setting a firm date to open the room block. We now expect the room block to open within the next few weeks, and will give a FULL week of advance notice before the reservation system is available. We will update our website, Twitter and LiveJournal with more information as soon we have it. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay!

    Return of the Lounge Lizards!
    Did you like the sofas and chairs we had in the San Jose Convention Center during Further Confusion 2013?  Yes?  If so, please thank every individual who helped to sponsored that feature of the convention with our Lounge Lizards program!

    It was pretty successful and we're going to be bringing it back for Further Confusion 2014, right now we're working out the final full details but I wanted to take a moment to specifically solicit feedback about the swag for our 2014 run of this program.  For FC2013 we gave out silicone bracelets. We want to keep things fresh so we'd like to get a read on the type of swag you'd like to get for helping us continue this convention feature.

    2014 Dealer's Den applications open April 2nd, and 2014 website preview!
    We're kicking off our 2014 preparations with Dealer's Den applications! This year, applications will be ONLINE, and we plan to have a guide to the application process on the website a week before the opening.

    Prices for Dealer's Den tables will be the same as they were for 2013: Half-Table: $100, Full-Table: $150.
    All details, information, and FAQs for both the Dealer's Den and Furry Marketplace (opening in August) can be found on our website at www.furtherconfusion.org.

    Stay tuned for the FULL 2014 website coming in April, as we kick-off our journey to Further Confusion vs. The World!
